Season-end briefing: Wheat crop performance

The wheat crop finished the season slightly above plan overall, with average yield stronger than expected on the better-drained fields. Early establishment was even across most of the farm, and a mild finish to the season supported grain fill in the later growth stages.

Performance was not uniform across all fields. The West Field underperformed because repeated wet spells delayed spraying and increased disease pressure during mid-season. That field also had more lodged crop at harvest, which reduced both yield and harvest efficiency compared with the other blocks.

Grain quality was generally solid. Protein levels were in the target range on most loads, and screenings stayed low enough to meet the main contract specification. Harvest logistics were slower than planned after rain interruptions, but the crop was still brought in with only limited losses. Overall, the result points to a respectable season, with drainage, timeliness of field operations, and disease management standing out as the main lessons for next year.
